01
Start with the people and the purpose of the trip
A property that sleeps six is not automatically comfortable for six. Check the bedroom count, bed configuration, bathroom count and whether shared spaces still work when every bed is occupied. A couple on a work trip, two families travelling together and a group attending an event can need very different layouts even when the guest count is the same.
Write down the non-negotiables before browsing. Examples include a separate bedroom for a child, step-free access, parking, laundry, a workspace, heating or proximity to a particular hospital, venue or family member. This makes comparison more useful and reduces the chance of choosing a visually attractive property that does not fit the actual stay.
02
Translate location into the daily journey
A central address may reduce driving but introduce parking or noise trade-offs. A residential location may offer more space and easier vehicle access while adding travel time. Compare the routes you expect to make each day, the time of arrival, public-transport options and whether luggage, children or mobility needs change the practical choice.
Property pages should state the city and area clearly, but the exact address may be withheld until booking for security and privacy. Use the published area as a first filter, then confirm any location-specific requirement before paying.
03
Compare what is confirmed, not what a photograph seems to imply
Photographs help explain space and condition, but they do not replace a written amenity list. Check whether parking, air conditioning, heating, laundry, kitchen equipment, outdoor space and accessibility features are explicitly published. If a feature matters and is not stated, treat it as unconfirmed rather than assumed.
House standards also affect fit. Review smoking, pets, events, quiet hours, visitor limits and arrival rules. A stay can be well presented and still be the wrong choice when a practical rule conflicts with the purpose of the trip.
04
Finish with the complete booking decision
The website where you discover a property may not display the final payable amount. On the secure booking page, check live dates, nightly charges, cleaning charges, taxes, deposits, currency, cancellation terms and house rules before payment. Compare total cost for the same dates and guest count, not headline nightly rates shown under different assumptions.
Keep the confirmation after booking and use the support route connected to it. That route is more useful than a general enquiry because it is tied to the property, dates and instructions for the stay.
